Developer Connection - Knowledge is power

It is widely believed that Sir Francis Bacon first spoke the famous words "knowledge is power!”

This famous phrase has been mentioned and written in emails, memos, board meetings and conferences all over the world! But when it comes to the traditional market place, this widely accepted and repeated philosophy seems to be missing in action.

Common sense would dictate that the more information available about a project and or a developer beforehand would increase the success rate and satisfaction of all parties. Though it is also fair to say that you may not want to give every detail of your project away or need to reveal your school exam results on your CV, there is a lack of vital information in some cases. I wish we were talking about trivial information here but we're not! Necessary things like budget, time scale and availability are all extremely important in the development process and yet so often these things are missing from project specs.

So who’s to blame for this? Is it the service? Is it the clients, store owners or developers fault? Truth be told, the mess belongs to everyone! There are store owners and clients unwilling to give specific details on projects, things like deadlines or budget, developers who don’t give realistic timescales in the fear of not securing a project and services that encourage this environment of confusion and frustration by not asking parties to provide essential information. Too often you see badly written project specs that developers are tripping over each other to "win", writing proposal after proposal filled with unrealistic promises while services are happy to let this happen as long as you use them.

Enter Developer Connection where we have created a quick, easy and detailed project creation form for store owners to fill out. This project creation form is specifically designed to provide developers with all the information they need by making many of the questions mandatory, things like "How long do you expect the project to take?" and "What version of Magento is the project for?"

Likewise, there is a process where developers can input their availability, qualifications and specialist areas to help clients choose the best developer for their project. Developers won't need to write endless proposals either, because their developer profile will be their proposal so as long as they create a great, eye-catching profile, they'll have no problems.

Next week, we’ll dive into the finer details of this process. For now, we’ll leave you with this. If knowledge truly is power and the traditional market place is content to leave itself and it’s users in a position of informational drought, maybe it's time for something new? Come and join us at Developerconnection.co.uk and take back your power!

Developer Connection - Hire the right UK Magento developers for your project.

In case you didn't notice, we recently overhauled our whole website and branding and to celebrate, over the next few week's we'll be taking a fresh look at everything Developer Connection has to offer both Magento developers and store owners alike.

Developer Connection is purposefully designed to be a Magento specific marketplace for developers and store owners to enjoy fast, easy, professional experiences while building long-lasting business relationships with others using the service.

There are many other services out there that claim to have this same vision while claiming to be different and be the best. Though we're not here to claim these things, we believe that we offer both clients and developers something unique, fresh and unrivalled.

We'll be making direct comparisons between Developer Connection and some of the more popular services in an upcoming blog, for now, we're going to look at the wider traditional market place to see how Developer Connection is different in 3 key areas.

One of the biggest problems with all of these services is hidden fees! Hidden fees are where the majority of these services make their money. Either by splitting the cost between freelancer and client or palming off the total amount to one or other. There's no escaping the reality that someone IS paying more than they NEED to, to the benefit of the service providers.
Developer Connection has NO hidden fees. Everything is upfront and there for you to see before you push that payment button.

Another issue with the traditional marketplace is communication.
Services will do everything they can to get you to use their service for everything and package it with a bow under the guise of convenience. What many people are unaware of is the small print that says if you connect with your chosen developer or client using any tools outside of the ones the service provides, then you are likely to be barred from the service or have your account permanently deleted.
We hate this! It creates this atmosphere of distrust and pressure between client and freelancer and is very "big brother is watching".
At Developer Connection, all we do is connect people, so you are free to use the tools you're used to and communicate outside of our service.

There's also the amount of information that's required by the service.
Many of these services require minimal information on projects, pricing and deadlines and often leaves developers chasing project details and store owners waiting for results. This again creates this friction between all parties involved.
As a development company ourselves, we understand the need for precise and clear information so created a quick but detailed way for store owners to communicate their needs and for developers to showcase their abilities and communicate their availability to clients.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be taking a closer look at these 3 issues and more as we compare Developer Connection with the other services out there in the traditional marketplace.
Thank you for letting us be a part of your day. If you have any questions about Developer Connection, please feel free to contact us using the details below. Until then, stay safe and have a great day.

Developer Connection Vs ...

Hello and welcome back the not only the last blog of our series but also our last blog of 2019! And as promised today is the big day, today is the day we take all the information we have gathered on other marketplace sites and use it to compare to ...

Before we begin we'd just like to write a small disclaimer stating that business is business, it is a foolish notion to get into business without the mindset of being able to make money, even charities and not for profit organisations have to make money in order to run effectively and so at no point are we (Hussey Coding or Developer Connection) criticising any company or individual for doing so, as we have stated before, even Developer Connection has to make money.

With that out of the way let's begin.

Developer Connection Vs Upwork, Freelancer and PeopePerHour.
Upwork - Bosting 12million registered freelancers and 5million registered clients Upwork is easily the biggest name in the online freelancer marketplace today. Upwork allows it's clients to interview, hire and work with their chosen freelancers using it's site's tools, things like real time chat, time sheets and payment options.

Freelancer - Operating in 247 countries including India, the Philippines, the UK and the USA, Freelancer is the holder of the largest user title with an estimated 16million users signed up to it's service. Based in Australia, freelancer is a marketplace for clients to post work and watch as freelancers bid to 'win' that work. They can also create profiles, rate each other and post competitions with cash prizes

PeoplePerHour - The largest UK marketplace with just under 2.4million freelancers and close to 1million clients, PeoplePerHour allows it's users to review each other, to post quickly, gives you an inbox task list, communication options and the ability to invoice.

Obviously it's difficult to compare Developer Connection to Upwork, Freelancer and PeoplePerHour in a direct sense for may reasons, they have been running longer, they are general marketplaces where as Developer Connection is a Magento specific marketplace and so on, so is there any competition here? Can Developer Connection even dare to think it can compete with industry giants like these? Well, if that were true, I wouldn't be writing this sentence!

So where do we compete? We compete where it matters most, the bank balance. We know that your bottom line is very important to you and that every penny needs to be justly accounted for and so even though we openly admit that Developer Connection needs to make money we are also here to change the game! We are here to show you that the old way of running a marketplace and having to pay unnecessary hidden fees is coming to an end!

To use Upwork there is a 20% service charge for every hour worked by the developer ... let that sink in ... 20% an hour! Which is commonly split by the developer onto the client which means, Clients, when you are paying your developers using Upwork's payment tool, which I should add Upwork is charging you an extra 3% to do, you are also probably paying at least half of what Upwork are charging your developer to just be a part of the service. Assuming that the developer passes half the cost onto you that's an extra 13% you are paying for 1 hours work. This does not include any membership fees or the price charged for making connections.

Freelancer does the same though at a smaller rate of 10-15% and like Upwork, will charge an extra 3% processing fee on top for the privilege of using their free payment tool. Again this does not include any extra add ons or service 'benefits' that are on offer. Making the same assumption as with Upwork that the developer will pass on half of the cost and even taking the lower percentage, you as a client are now paying an extra 8% on top of your projects cost per hour.

PeoplePerHour also charges an astonishing 20% service fee per hour for developers and will charge the developer to withdraw money from their PPH account depending on where it's going. They also charge the client a £0.60 +10% service charge as well and all this before you add up the cost of the extras that will be offered to enhance your user experience. Making the same assumption as before it is possible for the client to be charged over 20% extra for their project using PPH.

Developer Connection doesn't charge you for these things. There is a 0% service charge and there are no tools for you to use which means there are no extra charges for using them.
The reason we have no tools is because we want our developers and clients to have the freedom to use the tools they like to use, you are free to use your own tracker sites, your preferred payment methods, your favourite communication platforms and there are no penalties for working outside of Developer Connection, all we want to do is connect clients with skilled developers.

So what's the verdict? This small chart will clearly show you the numbers when it comes to the hidden fees of the marketplace.

If you want to see how we compare to other services out there like TopTal, Gun.io and Commerce Hero then click HERE.

When we created Developer Connection we wanted to change the game, we wanted to take the old way of doing things, throw it away and create something brand new that offered low costs but great service and we believe that we have done that, this idea that the only way to make money is to charge extra for things that really shouldn't be charged for is not a part of the Developer Connection DNA so Store owners, Developers will you help us to raise the bar? to take a stand? to change the game? Because we can't do it without you!

Developer Connection - The price is right

Hello and welcome back to our penultimate blog taking a deeper dive into the exciting details of the UK's new Magento marketplace. We touched a little on today’s topic during yesterday’s blog but now it’s time to take a closer look and to literally ask the big money question, how much does it cost to use ...

In a world of rising costs and small print it's never been more important for your business to manage it's budget effectively. Choosing a service to use to find your next developer/project is part of that budget and so it's important to know what you are getting into before hand.
We did some research, collecting data from 7 of the most popular traditional marketplaces and this is what we found. It is important to note here that some of these marketplaces are generic and not developer/Magento specific.

The majority of services offer free accounts for both clients and freelancers but that's basically where the all the free offers end. As we have said before these sites are geared towards enticing clients, the idea being that if all the fish are in one pond then all the fishermen will come to that pond and not any other, which in fairness is a good strategy, the issue comes in HOW they entice clients.

There is the apparent offer of free tools for the client to use, things like free payments to freelancers, free tracking of project progress, tools to communicate with and to update freelancers on goals or extra tasks and all contained within the service for them to use however it's usually the freelancer that ends up with the bill for these tools.
The reality is that in business you have to make money otherwise you won't last long and so for a service to need to make money is fine, Developer Connection needs to make money, it's not a free service, no service is and we accept that, but the deceptiveness of it is what we dislike.
As the freelancer is working and getting paid the service will take a cut of the money earned and so either the freelancer takes a pay cut or they pass on the X% of the service cut to the client by invoicing more than they normally would, in turn making the client pay for those free tools they were offered. Now obviously the service's cut doesn't solely go on the free tools, it will be divided between running costs, staff, general expenses, the usual business stuff but indirectly the cut will part fund them.
It will also be difficult for freelancers working on smaller, lower paying jobs to make a good amount of money as most sites will charge more of a cut the less you make, newer freelancers would find it very difficult to thrive in this kind of environment.

Please bare in mind that this is a typical example of what happens and not how each site works specifically. Some sites for example will charge the client the extra and not the freelancer in an attempt to get clients to fish from the freelancer pond rather than the other way around.
In our research we saw that some sites will charge from about 9% extra, depending on the cost of the project, and some will charge a staggering 20% extra, again, depending on the project. All of these figures are obviously available on their respective sites but they are not front and centre, in fact on one site we had to search through 5 pages of information to find these figures.

So what about Developer Connection? How is it different from all these other services and what will it really cost to use it?
Here at Hussey Coding we believe in honesty and transparency and so there is no small print or hidden fee involved, what you clearly see at each step of the process is what you pay, nothing more.

For clients it's a free sign up, you will then be able to use our questionnaire to help you create a project which base minimum is £50. Projects require a one off payment to post and that's it! Create, pay, post, done. You will have the option to purchase more connections after the project is created if you want to but that will also be clearly priced.

How much a project will cost to post will all depend on the options you chose, for example choosing a single developer for your project is free, hiring a team of say 20 developers will cost more however the total cost will be calculated for you before you click to create a project and as we said above it's a one off payment. Then all you need to do is sit back and wait while the service automatically matches you with the amount of developers you asked to be matched with, pick a developer and your project is underway. Obviously this does not include the developers fee, we are here to connect you only.

A developer will need to pay an initial fee of £30 to join and then subscribe to the service for a monthly payment of £20. Note that this means when joining you will pay £50 (£30 initial and £20 subscription). It's also good to know that all developers get a free connection to their first project before subscribing, again, no hidden fees, no added extra, this is legitimately free for you to use on your very first project, you will need to subscribe to connect to your second project though.

Once you have subscribed and set up your profile you can be automatically matched to an unlimited amount of client projects based on your profile, you won't need to be writing new proposals over and over with Developer Connection as your profile is your proposal so it's very important to spend some time developing and perfecting it.

After connecting with a client and agreeing to work together, you are free to work independently of Developer Connection, you can communicate how you like, work how you like, track how you like and not have to conform to the rigidity of a big brother style freelancer site. And in case you missed it whatever you earn from a project you get to keep 100% of it! We take a 0% cut from your work, nothing, nada, zip, it's all yours!

Developer Connection - What it says on the tin!

Hello and welcome back to the one and only Hussey Coding blog, your one stop blog for all things concerning Developer Connection!

All of last week we took a fresh look at what Developer Connection has to offer, as you may have noticed by now we here at Hussey Coding are really excited about this new service, not just because we are behind it but because we really believe in it, in it's uniqueness in a crowded marketplace, it's ability to stand up to competition and that honesty and transparency is at the core of everything that it offers! This is a service that prides it's self on clarity, this is a service that takes good and honest business practises and puts them into practice, this is a service that seeks to put the user back in the driver seat, this is ...

In today's blog we want to talk about the over riding goal of Developer Connection, in fact it's so important to us that we put it right there in the name of the service! Our goal is to connect people, that's it ... honestly.

There are no hidden T's&C's to make you have to stay with us, no secret systems that force you to do all of your work through the service after you've made the connection, nothing. Once you are matched and have entered into an agreement with a client/developer we have no part in anything afterwards!
We are not like other services in many ways but this is one of our biggest areas of difference. In the traditional marketplace the clients are usually the target, if a marketplace can get clients to sign up then freelancers will follow and so they are offered free accounts, limited free tools to be able to track progress or you can access the full range of tools for a price, communicate with freelancers and even an in house payment method so that everything to do with your project is all in one big, convenient place, which is great ... for clients.

Unfortunately, usually burred deep in the T's&C's there are rules that prohibit communication outside of the service, or terms that prevent external payments to take place and all of these breaches will incur a penalty or some sort, even to the point that the user will be bared from using the service again. As the clients are the targets of the majority of advertising, it is usually made difficult for them to see this side of the marketplace unless they themselves are a freelancer and have had previous experience or they have taken the time to read and follow every page and link in the T's&C's. The freelancer however will be made aware of these stipulations to encourage them to encourage the client to stay in the marketplace.

This on it's own is quite underhanded and can be the cause of a client/freelancer breakdown in relationship, which of course the marketplace is there to help with if needs be. But wait, there's more!
What many people don't know is that most traditional marketplaces take a cut of the work done by the freelancer, anything from 9% to a massive 20% PER HOUR! And this for the privilege of being able to use the site.
Now the freelancer has a choice to make, do they charge the client their normal fee and suffer the X% loss, do they split is between themselves and the client or do they pass it all onto the client to be paid by them? What ever the choice I think you will agree that someone is paying more than they need to! This ladies and gentlemen is the traditional marketplace.

We are here to change the game!

When you sign up to Developer Connection as a client you will create a free account and then create your project. Once that's done you will be shown your total to pay to post your project. You will have the option to purchase extra connections after posting if you wish but we are confident that you won't need to use this feature.
As a developer you will pay an initial fee and then will need to subscribe to the service to be matched to potential clients and after that ... nothing!
You are free to contact each other how you want, to use whatever tools and payment methods make you comfortable, you will not be bound by Developer Connection in any way! We really do what we say on the tin, WE JUST CONNECT!

Oh and we take a 0% cut
No hidden charges, no extra fees, no secret exchanges, we take nothing from you apart from what is laid out above. So now there are no added fees for developers to pay, whatever you make on a project is what you take home!
Clients no longer need to be worried about extra fees being passed on in the invoice because there aren't any!

We will be posting a blog looking at direct comparisons between Developerconnection.co.uk and some of the other more popular services, such as PeoplePerHour, Upwork and Guru really soon but until then please feel free to get in touch with us on the various social media platforms listed below, we would love to hear from you!
Thank you for for your time today and we'll see you back here tomorrow for more Developer Connection goodness. Until then stay safe and have a great day.

Developer Connection - A match made in cyber heaven

Hello there and welcome back to another edition the Hussey Coding blog. If you've been following us over the last few days you'll know that we are half way through our series looking at one of the newest services to hit the Magento world ...

Today we’re looking at the matching process, everything we have seen so far has really been building to this moment. We’ve been talking a lot about detailed information and how important it is for everyone involved to know as much as possible.

Choosing the right person for the job or finding the right project for you is essential to everyone, nobody wants to be stuck in a deal that just isn't working, which is why you submit yourself to the gruelling sometimes disheartening task of writing endless proposals or scrolling though hundreds of offers in the hopes of finding the right project or developer.
Not any more! Bringing together the right people is the goal here at Developer Connection and so we have built our service in a way that eliminates the need for all of this needless stress and time wasting.

Our matchmaking system allows both clients and developers to be matched according to the information they gave during project/profile creation, so all that information you filled in is now being put to work for you. This will lead to smoother run projects, great relationships and invigorating work experiences.
And the great thing is you can sit back and let it happen! As a developer you won't need to write a proposal every time as your profile is your proposal and the information in your profile is what has matched you to the client. Likewise for you, the store owner, you will only be matched with the number of developers you have asked for when creating your project so you won't be bombarded with pointless, unrealistic offers.

Lets take John as an example. John is a store owner and needs a developer that can work between 11-20 hours a week on his 6 month project and he has chosen to be connected with up to 5 developers. Developer Connection then automatically finds the 5 best candidates by matching John's project criteria to the answers and details on the developers profile.

Stacey has said that she can work a maximum of 30 hours a week and that she is interested in working on projects of 6+ months.
Mike has said that he can work a maximum of 10 hours a week and that he is interested in working on projects of 1-3 months.
In this scenario Stacey will be included in John's 5 developers but Mike will not as he is not a suitable match.

John then looks over the 5 developer profiles and decides which one is the best candidate to complete his project. During this stage John can contact as many or as few of his matched developers using the contact details provided by the developers. After contacting 4 of the developers he decides to go with Stacey.

Once John and Stacey are both happy to begin the project they will both need to indicate this using the Developer Connection website. The reason for this is two fold. Firstly it allows other developers to see that the project has begun and secondly it subtracts that number of hours from Stacey's available hours.

Time goes by, the project is completed and obviously John is ecstatic with the result. John and Stacey go back to Developer Connection and mark the project as completed which in turn adds the number of hours back onto Stacey's availability.

While Stacey is working on John's first project it is important to remember that John is free to create a second project which Stacey may not qualify for, but, miraculously, it turns out that Mike, from earlier, is perfect for the job, Happy Christmas Mike! likewise Stacey is also free to work on projects posted by Ian and Bruce at the same time if her hours permit.

Obviously the matchmaking system takes far more into account than just what we have seen above, this is just a simple example of what happens but the point is that Developer Connection takes away a huge amount to the hiring process for you, leaving you with peace of mind, confidence in the connections that have been made and gives you more time to work on the things that are important to you and your business.

Thank you for letting us be a part of your day, we are looking forward to posting more blogs on developerconnection.co.uk next week as we compare Developer Connection to other services, talk about costing and how you can make more money by just using our service. Until then, feel free to drop us a line using our contact details below, stay safe and have a great weekend

Developer Connection - The UK's Magento specific marketplace

Hello and welcome back to the Hussey Coding blog where we are continuing our series inspired by

Today we will be looking at who Developer Connection was designed for. As a Magneto development company ourselves, we know what it's like to search through generic marketplaces, to scroll through project upon project until we finally find the right one only to discover that by the time we put in an offer it's gone, or of having posted a project and needing to sift through endless proposals ranging from amazing but over budget to downright idiocy. If we're preaching to the choir here then rest assured, Developer Connection was built for you!

Developer Connection is a service designed specifically to bring the Magento community together, no more will you need to hunt for Magento specific projects or developers on other sites as everyone will be in the same place, under one roof. It is a service open to all Magento users looking for skilled professionals based in the UK. Offering the ability for Magento store owners and clients to connect with developers that have been chosen using our instant, intelligent and automatic matching system.
There is no limit to number or size of project you can post, however long, specific or big your project is there is a developer for you and for developers there are no limits outside of your own availability as to how many projects you can take on.

Right now our focus is on the UK Magento community meaning that if you want to create a project then you will need to be a UK based client/store owner to use the service however this works slightly differently for developers.
A developer working solo will always need to be based in the UK but with the ability to create teams on the Developer Connection service, developers from anywhere in the world will be able to take full advantage of everything that Developer Connection has to offer.
All they need to do is be invited to a team that has at least 1 UK based lead developer.

Here's how it works
John lives in the USA and wants to sign up to use Developer Connection, he has a friend, Bill, who is a developer in the UK. John contacts Bill and they both create their profiles and subscribe to the service. Bill then chooses the option to create a team as a lead developer and sends an invitation to John and now John is able to use the service.

Developer Connection is not run by a marketing or recruitment agency like some services but is run, maintained and overseen by professional Magento developers, people who know how Magento works, understand clients needs and recognise developers skills. We at Hussey Coding are passionate about Magento and doing everything we can to the best of our abilities, we have been working on Magento projects for almost 10 years so we understand the highs and lows of the industry, the frustrations and the bugbears and it is out of this passion that Developer Connection was born, so come and join us and be a part of something great!

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about this exciting new venture not just for us but for the Magento community as a whole, check it out now at Developerconnection.co.uk. Please feel free to get in touch with us about Developer Connection or Hussey Coding using the contact details below, we would love to hear from you, until then stay safe and have a great day.

Developer Connection - The information highway

Hey there and welcome back to another exciting edition of the Hussey Coding blog.

Today we are continuing our series looking at the new Magento project marketplace...

Last time we took a quick look at 3 of the biggest issues with the traditional marketplace and in this blog we'll take a look at how we combat one of those issues, the lack of information.
The process of gathering information is different for store owners and developers so we'll take this in two parts beginning with store owners.

The Store Owner
First thing you're going to want to do is create a 100% free account, you will need to create an account so even if you decide to create a project right away you will be asked to create an account before you are able to post your project.
Creating an account is quick and easy and gives you a personal space to be able to see your connections, manage your projects, including the developers attached to those projects as well as talking to, hiring and reviewing developers.

The next thing you'll want to do is create a project using our list of 20 detail oriented but simple questions. Things like what version of Magento are you using? Do you need to integrate with external services? Would you prefer Magento certified developers? What is your maximum budget? and how many developers do you want to be matched with? Some of these questions are required for creating your project, which helps us to match you to the best developers for your project but some, like project summary, are optional.

Once you've answered all the questions you can or want to, you then create your project with a one off payment. We will go over costings for both clients and developers in another blog coming soon but after you have clicked that payment button you will be instantly matched with developers who meet the specific requirements that you laid out during project creation and remember, you can have any number of projects on the go at the same time, you are not limited to one project at a time.

The Developer
Developers will need to pay a one off joining fee to be able to create an account with Developer Connection and once signed up you'll be able to create your profile. Your profile is one of the most important parts of the whole process, usually with other services you would need to write a proposal for each project you want to "win" but not with Developer Connection! Your profile is your proposal and so it needs to be as detailed as possible and we are here to help.

Having a developer pass a pre set test or solve a simple coding problem that could be memorised before hand is an inadequate representation of a persons skills, creativity and personality. By default developers are all these things, creative, dedicated, problem solvers and that should be showcased, so we have created a process for developers using the service to reflect this belief.
The first part of the process is a developer questionnaire including questions like what is your weekly availability? In what areas of Magento do you specialise? and have you experience in creating a store from scratch?
The second part is all up to you, you will be able to upload documents like your C.V., client references, open source contributions and website addresses to previous work or showcase sites.

Your profile is completely editable so you can add and take away things as you go. Once you have completed your profile you will need to set up a monthly subscription to the service in order to be matched to unlimited projects, there is no cap or maximum, the only restriction on projects will be dependant on the hours you tell us you are available as we manage this for you automatically so you will never be offered more than you can handle.

We hope you can see how providing a rich source of information from the beginning is in everyone's best interest, it helps to be rid of the traditional weight of frustration, distrust and confusion that are often associated with the traditional market place and to replace it with an atmosphere of trust, efficiency and professionalism.

Thank you for taking time to read our blog today, we hope that you will join us on this exciting adventure in creating a better, healthier environment for both store owners and developers here at Developerconnection.co.uk

Developer Connection - Knowledge is power

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Hussey Coding blog all about the exciting new Magento project marketplace ...

Sir Francis Bacon is widely believed to have originally spoken the famous words “knowledge is power”, these words have been spoken and written in emails, memos, board meetings and conferences all over the world but when it comes to the traditional market place this widely accepted and repeated philosophy seems to be missing in action.

Common sense would dictate that the more information available about a project and or a developer before hand would greatly increase the success rate and satisfaction of all parties and while it is also fair to say that you may not want to give every detail of your project away or need to reveal your school exam results on your CV there is a serious lack of vital information in some cases. I wish we were talking about trivial information here but we aren't, important things like budget, time scale and availability are all extremely important in the development process and yet so often these things are missing.

So who’s to blame for this? Is it the service? Is it the clients, store owners or developers fault? Truth be told the mess belongs to everyone, there are store owners and clients unwilling to give specific details on projects, things like deadlines or budget, developers who don’t give realistic timescales in the fear of not securing a project and services that encourage this environment of confusion and frustration by not asking parties to provide essential information. To often you see badly written project specs that developers are tripping over each other to "win", writing proposal after proposal filled with unrealistic promises using services that are just happy to let this happen as long as you use them.

Enter Developer Connection where we have created a quick, easy and detailed project creation form for store owners to fill out. This project creation form is specifically geared to provide developers with all the information they need by making many of the questions mandatory, things like "How long do you expect the project to take?" and "What version of Magento is the project for?".
Likewise there is a process where developers can input their availability, qualifications and specialist areas to help clients choose the best developer for their project. Developers also won't need to write endless proposals either, your developer profile will be your proposal so as long as you create a great, eye catching profile then you should have no problems.

Tomorrow we’ll dive into the finer details of this process but for now we’ll leave you with this. If knowledge truly is power and the traditional market place is content to leave itself and it’s users in a position of informational drought maybe it’s time for something new, so come and join us at Developerconnection.co.uk and take back your power!

Thank you for letting us be a part of your day, drop us a comment or join us on our social media sites listed below, we’d love to hear from you, but until then stay safe and have a great day.

Developer Connection - Be a part of something great!

Hello everyone and welcome to the Hussey Coding blog

Many of you will have read our launch series we posted a few months back but for some of you Developer Connection may still be something new and confusing and so today we are kicking off our 2 week series of daily blogs bringing you all the information there is on ...

The vision of Developer Connection is to create a Magento specific marketplace for developers and store owners to enjoy a fast, easy and professional experience while creating long lasting business relationships with others using the service.
There are many other services out there that all claim to have this same vision and all make the claim to be different and be the best and while we are not here to claim these things we do believe that we offer both clients and developers something unique, fresh and unrivalled.

We will be making direct comparisons between Developer Connection and some of the more popular services in an upcoming blog but for now we're going to look at the wider traditional market place and see how Developer Connection is different in 3 key areas.

One of the biggest hang ups with all of these services are hidden fees. Hidden fees are where the majority of services make their money, either split between freelancer and client or completely palmed off to one or other. There is no escaping the reality that someone IS paying more than they NEED to at the benefit of the service providers.
Developer Connection has NO hidden fees. Everything is up front and there for you to see before you push that payment button.

Another issue with the traditional marketplace is communication. Services will do everything they can to get you to use their service for everything and package it with a bow under the guise of convenience but what many people are unaware of is the small print that says if you connect outside of the service then you are liable to be barred from the service and have your account deleted permanently.
We hate this, it creates an atmosphere of distrust and pressure between client and freelancer and is very "big brother is watching" which is why at Developer Connection we do what we say on the tin, we connect, that's it!

There's also the amount of information that's required by the service. A lot of these services require minimal information on projects, pricing and deadlines and often leave developers chasing information and store owners waiting for results, again creating this friction between the parties involved.
As a development company ourselves we understand the need for good and clear information and so have created a quick but detailed way for store owners to communicate their needs and for developers to showcase their abilities and communicate their availability to clients.

Over the next few days we will be taking a closer look at these 3 issues and more as we compare Developer Connection with the other services out there in the traditional market place.
Thank you for letting us be a part of your day, if you have any questions about Developer Connection please feel free to contact us using the details below but until then, stay safe and have a great day.

Developer Connection - A simple pricing model

Hello there and welcome back to another exciting mini blog by Hussey Coding

As we near the end of our series looking at the new Magento marketplace, Developer Connection, it's time to ask the big money question ... literally! Today we are looking at the what it costs to use Developer Connection as both a client and developer.

In this blog we will look at
 - Traditional pricing
 - Developer Connection - Simple pricing for clients
 - Developer Connection - Simple pricing for developers
If you have been following us in our mini series, you will most likely know what's coming, however, in case we have some who are just joining us on our grand tour of Developer Connection, let's take a quick look at the pricing model for the traditional marketplace. All of this information comes from our own research, collating data from 7 of the most known traditional freelancer marketplaces.

Most, but not all, will allow both clients and developers to sign up to their service for free, which is pretty much where all the free stuff stops.
A client will be enticed with the illusion of free tools to use, free payments to freelancers, free tracking of a freelancers progress etc. but in reality it's not free at all. For the privilege of being able to find and connect with all of the clients the site has encouraged to use their site a freelancer will either need to pay or have X% taken from the money sent to them through that sites payment plan from the client. This is the sites cut and the size of the cut depends on how much the job is worth, most sites state that the more you earn the less percent their cut will be, making it incredibly difficult for freelancers who are just starting out or who only have enough time for smaller jobs to make any money at all.

The freelancer now needs to decide if they will take a pay cut and only charge the client their normal fee, having the X% deducted from that, if they will up their fee so that the client pays the cut to the site or if they will up their fee enough so the client pays a portion of the cut but not all.
Please bare in mind that this is a typical example and not now each site works specifically. Some sites for example will charge the client the extra and not the freelancer.
In our research we saw that some sites will charge from 5% extra, depending on the cost of the project, and some will charge a staggering 20% extra, again, depending on the project. All of these figures are obviously available on their respective sites but they are not front and centre, in fact on one site we had to search through 5 pages of information to find these figures.
Here at Hussey Coding we think that this method causes distrust and uneasy relationships between clients and freelancers and so we are changing the game!
For a client to sign up to Developer Connection is free, you will then be able to use our questionnaire to help you create a project. Projects require a one off payment to post and that's it! Create, pay, post, done.

How much a project will cost to post will all depend on the options you chose, for example choosing a single developer for your project is free, hiring a team of say 20 developers will cost more however the total cost will be calculated for you before you click to create a project and as we said above it is a one off payment, once you click to create you are all paid up and ready to go!

Then all you need to do is sit back and wait while the service automatically matches you with the amount of developers you asked to be matched with, pick a developer and your project is underway.
A developer will need to pay an initial fee of £30 to join and then subscribe to the service for a monthly payment of £20. Note that this means when joining you will pay £50 (£30 initial and £20 subscription).

Once you have subscribed and set up your profile you can be automatically matched to an unlimited amount of client projects based on your profile, you won't need to be writing new proposals over and over with Developer Connection as your profile is your proposal so it's very important to spend some time developing and perfecting it.

After connecting with a client and agreeing to work together then you are free to work independently of Developer Connection, you can communicate how you like, work how you like, track how you like and not have to conform to the rigidity of a big brother style freelancer site. What's more is that whatever you earn from a project you get to keep 100% of it! We take a 0% cut from your work, nothing, nada, zip, it's all yours!

BUT WAIT! There's more! If you head to www.DeveloperConnection.co.uk right now you can take advantage of our incredible 50% limited time discount for all clients and developers! So what are you waiting for?

We hope you have found this edition of the Hussey Coding blog helpful and informative, please help us to spread the word about Developer Connection by supporting us on our various social media outlets listed below. Developer Connection - We just connect

Hi there and welcome back to the Hussey coding blog.

In this blog we continue or mini series looking at the new Magento marketplace, Developer Connection. Today we are taking a look at the primary focus of Developer Connection, in fact it's so important and integral to what we do we put it in the name, that's right, today we are looking at connections.

In this blog we will look at
 - The traditional marketplace - connect, control, cut
 - Developer Connection - we just connect!
If you have been around any length of time you will have inevitably come across marketplace sites, these sites are all geared toward attracting clients with promises of connecting them with the perfect freelancer. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad thing, it makes perfect sense to attract clients since freelancers need clients and if clients are all in one place then that's the best place to go to find them.

The problem comes after this where sites will offer a whole lot of bonuses and extra features to encourage the clients to stay, for example, being able to pay the freelancer through the site, being able to upload files to the freelancer through the site, being able to communicate and see the work the freelancer has done through the site, basically you can do everything through the site so you don't need to go anywhere else, everything is in one, convenient place.
Why would this be bad? again, everything being in one place isn't a bad thing, in fact it is very convenient ... but try contacting your freelancer out side of the site, try emailing them some extra stuff or paying them independently and what you'll find is that buried deep in the T&C is usually a penalty for operating out side of that site, it could be a small penalty or even as far as being barred from using that site again, either way, once you start using that site, you and your freelancer are stuck there for the duration of that project.

Of course, when everything is in one place why would you need to do anything outside of the site? It was free to sign up and all you really need to do is pay your freelancer their agreed price and everyone's happy.
Except what you may not realise as a client is that the freelancer is getting hit with an extra charge and this is the sites cut of the project, it's how the site makes it's money and also why they encourage clients stay and pay through them. So now our freelancer has 2 options, either they take a pay cut and pay the X% the site is taking as a cut themselves or they add the X% to their rate, meaning they take home what they should be and the client pays the cut to the site without ever knowing it.

Developer Connection is not like that at all, we just connect, it's that simple.
Clients can sign up for free and begin creating projects right away. There is a fee for posting them but once that's done the matching process begins immediately.
Developers will pay a one off fee for signing up and then be able to create their profile, they will need to subscribe to the service to be able to be matched but once subscribed they can be matched to an unlimited amount of projects.

Once a client has chosen a developer the connection will be made and our role in the project is over. That means that you are free to talk, email, skype and generally communicate in any way you see fit, you can use the systems that you're comfortable with for tracking work, use your preferred payment methods and all with no penalty attached, you will be free!

And speaking of being free, we take a 0% cut of the work! Again our role in a clients project is to connect them with a developer, that's it, there is no need for anyone to pay any more and no need for us to be involved with the project past that point.

We are so excited to be bringing this service to the Magento community and we whole heartedly believe that it will benefit both clients and developers alike but we need your help!
Head on over to www.DeveloperConnection.co.uk and sign up NOW to take advantage of our amazing, limited time, 50% automatic discount for all clients and developers!

Developer Connection - Finding the perfect match

Hello and welcome back to another mini blog by Hussey Coding.

Today we continue our series on Developer Connection, the new Magento marketplace.
There is an old saying that goes "you need to get the right tool for the job ", this is also true of the client / developer relationship, which is why Developer Connection is here to help.

Getting as close to the perfect match as possible is what every one wants, it makes for smoother run projects, great relationships and an invigorating working experience. Our aim is to match clients with high quality, professional, experienced Developers who carefully and consistently complete projects to specification and deadlines.

In this blog we will look at
 - Matching - How it works
 - Matching - What happens next?
During the project creating process clients will answer a range of questions, some mandatory and some optional and it is this information along with information provided by developers, who have created profiles, that allow us to make great matches.

As a basic example lets say that client 1 needs a developer that can work between 11-20 hours a week on his 6 month project. Developer Connection will then look through the list of developers who have answered similar questions in their profile set up questionnaire.

Developer 3 has said that she can work a maximum of 30 hours a week and that she is interested in working on projects of 6+ months.
Developer 6 has said that he can work a maximum of 10 hours a week and that he is interested in working on projects of 1-3 months.
In this scenario Developer 3 will be matched but Developer 6 will not

The Developer Connection system takes far more than just this simple example into consideration, accounting for a range of different factors a huge amount of the hiring work is done for you, leaving clients and developers with more time, peace of mind and confidence in the connections that are made.
Client 1 has completed and posted his project and lets say that while creating his project, client 1 has asked to be matched with no more than 5 developers.

Automatically developers 1-5 will be matched with client 1 who will them look over the 5 developers profiles and decide which one is the best to complete the project. During this stage client 1 can contact as many or as few of the matched developers as he pleases using the contact details provided by the developers and in this case he decides to go with developer 3.

Once client 1 and developer 3 are both happy to begin the project they will both indicate this using the Developer Connection website. The reason for this is two fold. Firstly it allows other developers to see that the project has begun and secondly it subtracts that number of hours from developer 3's available hours.

Time goes by, the project is completed by developer 3 and obviously client 1 is ecstatic with the result. Client 1 and developer 3 go back to Developer Connection and mark the project as completed which in turn adds the number of hours back onto developer 3's availability.

While developer 3 is working on client 1's first project, client 1 is free to create a second project which developer 3 may not qualify for, likewise developer 3 is also free to work on projects posted by clients 5 and 9 at the same time if her hours permit.

We hope you have found this mini blog helpful in understanding more about Developer Connection. Please feel free to share, like, love and repost any and all of our Developer Connection mini blogs and help us grow to be able serve the Magento community better.

Don't forget that signing up to Developer Connection NOW gets you a whopping 50% off for all clients and developers! Head to www.DeveloperConnection.co.uk to take advantage.
