Meet Magento UK '20 - Samar Elshafiey, Oleksandr Lyzun, Jon Palmer, Richard Gardner & Megan Harron

Welcome everyone to a packed edition of

the Hussey Coding blog

This is the penultimate post of the series and what a ride it's been!

Today we are going all in and covering 4 tracks with 5 speakers bringing our look at the speakers of Meet Magento UK 2020 to an end, but don't worry as tomorrow we have something else planned to help you navigate the conference.

Before we begin, just a quick update on the Merchant track session for 11.35, this will remain an empty slot so for that time slot there will only be 3 tracks available. With that said, let's take a look at the last track speakers of the day.

Samar Elshafiey

Merchant Track 15:10 - 15:45

Designing Memorable Mobile Experiences

One of my favourite quotes is "People won't always remember what you say but they will always remember how you made them feel" and this is true of eCommerce too. How people feel about your brand or company can have a huge effect on your revenue and with more and more people using mobile to shop well that just adds another layer altogether. Join Samar as she shows us some great ways to improve our users' experience.

Who's it for?

If you are running any kind of site or store, are planning on creating a mobile friendly site or store or are moving to PWA then this is a great one for you.

Who is Samar Elshafiey?

Starting as a strategic analyst intern at CIB Egypt, Samar then moved onto being a research intern at CI Capital holding, supply chain operations intern at Nestle, actuarial intern and AXA insurance before becoming a senior data analyst, user experience researcher and more recently a user experience consultant at Google.

Oleksandr Lyzun

Technical Track 15:10 - 15:45

Asynchronous Magento

Ok so really quick what does Asynchronous mean? SO things used to be done synchronously which means that only one task can be done at one time and nothing can progress before that task is finished. Asynchronous means that multiple tasks can take place at the same time, for example, a waiter can only take the order of one table at a time, he cannot take the order of table 1 and table 7 at the same time, this is synchronous however the chef can be cooking table 1, 7, 12, and 106's orders at the same time, this is asynchronous.

Magento comes with a ton of cool stuff ready to go from installation and Alex is going to tell us what in that box is asynchronous what's not and what issues there maybe with some of those things.

Who's it for?

If you are a developer then this is for you but also if you are interested in how things operate behind the scenes or have an interest in coding.

Who is Oleksandr Lyzun?

With 15 years of experience, Oleksandr is now the Magento team lead at Comwrap after working at Comwrap as a developer and Conlabz Gmbh as a web developer.

Klaviyo: Taking a Walk in Your Customer’s Shoes Across All Channels

Communication is key in eCommerce, if you don't communicate with your customers then you are going to have superficial, one time only sales but building brand relationships will convert those initial sales into life long customers. But how do you achieve that? In this session, Jon and Richard will talk us through how fitness and lifestyle brand Hylete did just that, creating real, long-lasting relationships with customers and bringing the community to their brand.

Magento Extension Ecosystem Updates

You will know by now Magento is a hugely diverse and flexible eCommerce solution, even using its out of the box installations you can blow competitors out of the proverbial water but with extensions, you can customize and add a whole new level of uniqueness to your site and with both free and premium extensions being created by third-party developers there is no limit to what you can do.

As a side note, we do recommend that you only install extensions that come from reputable sources, one such as the Magento Marketplace which has strict rules and procedures in place, a warning that I'm sure Megan will echo during her look at the Magento extension ecosystem.

Who's it for?

If you run Magento extensions, have just migrated to M2, are migrating to M2, are about to migrate to M2 (M1 end of life is happening now) or you just want some inspiration on how to make your store stand out then you don't wanna miss this session.

Who is Megan Harron?

Administrative/personal assistant at Millennium farms, communications & program coordinator at Austin partners in education, sales consultant, account manager, sales engineer, sales manager and product manager at Volusion, product manager at Hot Schedules, senior project manager at Accruent and now manager of project management and Magento extension ecosystem Megan beings with her over almost 15 years of experience to this session.
