MMUK'20 - Moving online for charity

Hey everyone and welcome back to another edition of the
Hussey Coding blog

In March we published a blog (HERE) about our excitement surrounding the upcoming MMUK'20 event and where you could buy your early bird tickets, then things changed, the world shut down and all of our favourite go to events were cancelled.
But then, in the midst of that disappointment, news started to emerge of online events, where industry experts would gather together via video and hold online seminars, fitness routines and news broadcasts. The Magento world has been no different!
In this blog, we're going to be looking at everything we know and some things we don't know about this years MMUK'20.
What we DO know
We know that MMUK'20 is keeping its original date of June 17th and we also know that it's not free, however, we're ok with that because the people over at JH are doing something really incredible!
Tickets are "Pay what you can" with a recommended donation of £20 and ALL proceeds go to pre-chosen charity, the Trussell Trust. But that's not all, MMUK'20 is also supporting 2 other charities, Mind and Age UK, through the event sponsors making this online event ALL for charity!

The Trussell Trust
These are the people who run foodbanks up and down the country with the goal of ending hunger and poverty in the UK. Relying on food donations from everyday people like you and me, foodbank help provide food parcels for those in need as well as signposting people to other services that could help them too. You can read more about their amazing work HERE.

Mind
"Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. But hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling."
The goal of Mind is to bring help and support to these individuals. Providing one to one support, sharing information and campaigning for better understanding, Mind seeks to raise awareness and improve mental health services here in the UK.
Find out more about Mind HERE.

Age UK
"Too many older people feel they have no one to turn to for support. We exist to help older people when they need us the most."
Age UK is there to help people by providing information and advice on matters like rights, care, loneliness, activities, support and independence while also looking to improve quality of life through fundraising, networking and campaigning for improved services. You can find out more about them HERE.

That means 1 of 3 things,
1. JH is paying for some/all of the speakers fees for this event out of their own pocket
2. Someone else is paying some/all the speakers fees or
3. Some/all of the speakers are doing it for free, which is the option I personally subscribe to.
This is just another amazing example of the Magento community, a community that you and I belong to, pulling together to not only help ourselves, but to help others outside of our community too.

What will "buying" a ticket get you?
First off you'll get access to the conference. This will allow you to view all of the amazing content that they have in store and there will be ways of interacting with the speakers during the day too, more on that in future blogs.
Last year there were 2 tracks to chose from, Technical and Merchant but this year MMUK'20 is doubling down and giving us 2 new tracks to enjoy in the form of Solution and Platform. As of yet all speakers and talk titles are still under wraps (apart from 1) but we're keeping a close eye here at Hussey Coding and I promise you as soon as they drop we'll be right here with all the information you need.

What else do we know? We know that you can register for your ticket up until the 17th of June, that you can transfer your ticket up until a week before the event and we know that Rebecca Brocton is returning to host this digital delight.

What we DON'T know
 - As of yet we have no idea how many speakers they have lined up but assuming that each track has about the same number as last year and we have the same amount of keynote sessions we could be looking at around 30-35 sessions in total.

 - Part of the fun of last years event was wandering between stalls and checking out the impressive array of "swag" that was on offer. Obviously it's physically impossible to achieve that this year however there may be swag-ortunities available in some form but again, we don't know for sure.

 - We also don't know if there will be opportunity to contact and chat with the sponsors, we do know that there will be a way to chat or at least contact the speakers in some form but whether this applies to sponsors too is yet to be seen.

Whatever happens, this is shaping up to be a great event and with just 3 weeks to go I'm itching to see what we have in store in the way of speakers and subjects.

If you are as excited as we are about MMUK'20 then head on over to your favourite social media site and hit those like and share buttons and help us get the word out about this not to be missed event! Where can you register? Just head to uk.meet-magento.com.
